Twitch video prompts police probe into potential child abuse

By

CALGARY – Calgary Police are investigating a case of possible child abuse after a woman posted a video of herself abusing a child on a streaming service.

A person recorded the video on the popular platform Twitch and then posted it to Twitter, while tagging Twitch support and a number of child welfare groups.

In the video, the woman tosses the child, who looks to be no older than two years old, around the bed and appears to bite the child’s arm.

All of this due to the woman apparently being upset about the child disrupting her playing the game.

The video was posted on Twitter by another Twitch user and the woman in the video responded to criticism on the post in a tweet which has now been deleted.

“Someone has too much time on their hands and goes around being rude to people she doesn’t even know,” said the woman in a Twitter conversation.

Both the original video and the Twitch channel have since been removed, although a second copy of the video still circulates Twitter.

While CPS has confirmed that the Child Abuse Unit is looking into the situation, officers have not shared many other details as the investigation is ongoing.

The woman in the video and Twitch for comment, but has not commented as of Tuesday night.
