Impaired driver busted in Delta school zone

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – It’s one of the most selfish things someone can do.

Those harsh words are coming from police in Delta after an impaired driver was pulled over in a school zone around 9:15 Tuesday morning.

According to a Facebook post made by the department, officers in the area were supervising impaired drivers on the road when they eventually stopped an intoxicated driver driving in a school zone.

“We do have officers, day and night, who are always looking for impaired drivers or drivers who are otherwise, driving unsafely,” Cris Leykauf with the Delta Police Department tells NEWS 1130.

The driver was given a 90-day driving ban, his vehicle was impounded, and he left the scene in a taxi.

“By not taking the steps to ensure that you have an alternative ride home after a night (or morning) of drinking, you are putting someone else’s life in danger,” reads the Facebook post.

“Because of your selfishness, a child, parent or friend may not be home for the holidays. Do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have consumed alcohol.”

Officers suggest you call a cab, a friend, or take the bus if you’ve consumed alcohol or drugs.
