Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Metro Vancouver

METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Thunder and heavy rain have returned to parts of Metro Vancouver.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the second time in two days for the northeast and southeast parts of the region, including Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey, and Langley.

Some areas were battered by intense showers on Friday, with some regions even seeing blankets of hail cover streets and lawns.

Forecasters say a line of “intense showers” from north Coquitlam to Langley is moving eastward slowly.

The weather system can bring downpours of up to 25 millimetres an hour.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” Environment Canada’s website reads. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
